Samara Karoo Reserve in South Africa is unveiling a new wilderness experience: the Exclusive Cheetah Trail, a three-night, four-day immersive walking safari that offers adventurers a unique opportunity to explore some of the reserve’s most remote and untouched areas on foot.

Spanning approximately 30 kilometres, this intimate journey takes guests through terrains inaccessible by vehicle, fostering a deep personal connection with the vast semi-arid landscapes of the Great Karoo.

Guided by expert trail leaders, participants will traverse footpaths and game trails in a 27,000-hectare Big Five reserve tracking the continent’s most endangered big cat, the cheetah. Guests may also encounter other members of the Big Five, various antelope species, and over 225 bird species. The experience goes beyond mere observation; it’s about understanding the intricate ecosystems and the importance of preserving them.

We’ve designed the Cheetah Trail as a grounding, humbling journey into nature—away from the distractions of modern technology, where the vast open spaces provide an opportunity for true reflection and rejuvenation, and to come within a short distance of cheetah.”

This walking safari is about wildlife sightings and an educational journey where guests learn to read the land by spotting tracks and identifying flora and fauna. The trail offers the chance to visi tancient cave paintings, providing insights into the region’s rich cultural heritage and adding a historical dimension to the adventure.

Samara Karoo Reserve’s Accommodations That Blend Comfort with Nature

The expedition begins and concludes at Plains Camp, Samara’s new off-grid eco-camp, approximately 53 kilometres from Graaff-Reinet and a 2.5-hour drive from Port Elizabeth. The camp features four luxurious walk-in tents with en-suite bathrooms, a communal dining tent, and a plunge pool. Designed to provide comfort without detracting from the natural environment, the camp ensures guests can relax after a day of exploration.

Located in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Tanzania, Zanzibar is a treasure trove of breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and unique experiences that beckon travellers from around the globe. From pristine beaches to historical towns, Zanzibar promises a luxurious and exhilarating adventure. Here are five essential, out-of-this-world experiences that will make your trip to Zanzibar unforgettable.

1. Swim with Horses at Nungwi Beach

Imagine the sensation of warm, sun-kissed sand beneath your feet as you mount a majestic horse on the pristine shores of Nungwi Beach. Located on the north-western tip of Zanzibar, Nungwi Beach is famed for its powdery white sands and turquoise waters. This idyllic setting is perfect for a unique horseback riding experience that combines the thrill of riding with the serene beauty of swimming in the Indian Ocean.

The magic begins as the sun sets, casting a golden hue across the horizon. Whether you’re an experienced rider or a novice, the guides at Nungwi Beach cater to all skill levels, ensuring a memorable adventure. Opt for a ride that lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, taking you along the beach and into the waves. You can even swim with the horses during high tide, creating a surreal moment where land and sea merge seamlessly. If you visit during low tide, enjoy sandbank rides in the mornings, available only 14-15 days a month.

After your ride, unwind with a refreshing drink at Cholo’s Bar or Mangi’s Bar, popular sunset spots that offer the perfect end to an exhilarating day. Picture yourself, drink in hand, reflecting on the bucket-list moment you just experienced, as the vibrant colours of the sunset blend with the tranquil sounds of the ocean.

2. Swim with Turtles at Baraka Natural Aquarium

For an equally enchanting yet different aquatic experience, visit Baraka Natural Aquarium, also located on the north-western tip of Zanzibar. Here, you can swim, feed, and pet the native sea turtles in a natural marine lagoon. The water level in the aquarium varies with the tides, offering a dynamic environment where you can interact with these ancient mariners.

Known as possibly Tanzania’s best turtle aquarium, Baraka provides a unique opportunity to connect with sea turtles in their natural habitat. It’s a serene and educational experience that highlights the importance of marine conservation while allowing you to marvel at these gentle creatures up close.

3. Snorkel in Mnemba Island

Venture off the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar to Mnemba Island, a private island part of the Zanzibar Archipelago. This marine reserve is renowned for its vibrant coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, and diverse marine life. With excellent underwater visibility and relatively healthy coral, snorkelling here is like entering a colourful underwater paradise.

The island itself is private and part of &Beyond Mnemba Island, but the surrounding waters are open for exploration, offering an exclusive and serene snorkelling experience that’s second to none, perfect for a relaxing day in the water.

4. Dine at The Rock Restaurant

Perched on a rock just off the beach on the south-eastern coast of Zanzibar, The Rock Restaurant offers a dining experience that is as unique as its location. Originally a fisherman’s outpost, this small restaurant provides panoramic views of the ocean on one side and the stunning Zanzibar coastline on the other.

Accessible by foot during low tide or a quick boat ride during high tide, The Rock serves freshly caught seafood, including fish and lobsters sourced daily by local fishermen. Enjoying a meal here is not just about the food; it’s about immersing yourself in the natural beauty and tranquillity of the setting. Whether savouring grilled seafood or sipping a cocktail as the sun sets, dining at The Rock is an unforgettable experience.

5. Explore Stone Town

A trip to Zanzibar would be incomplete without exploring the historical and cultural heart of the island—Stone Town. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fascinating blend of African, Arab, Indian, and European influences, evident in its architecture, cuisine, and daily life. Wander through the labyrinthine streets, where each turn reveals a new aspect of the town’s rich history.

Admire the intricately carved Zanzibar doors, each telling the story of the household it adorns. Visit the 18th—and 19th-century buildings made of coralline ragstone and lime mortar and discover the unique urban landscape that has evolved for millennia. For a unique perspective, head to a rooftop bar like the one at Upendo House, a boutique hotel in Stone Town. It offers stunning views of the city’s historic rooftops and a wonderful blend of modern and historic vibes.

One of my most cherished memories began on a sun-kissed morning in Cape Town. I remember stepping out of my elegant suite, greeted by the invigorating scent of the ocean, mingling with the fresh mountain air. The promise of adventure hung in the air as I set out to explore this vibrant city, a place where every corner seemed to whisper tales of luxury and enchantment. With its perfect blend of natural beauty and sophisticated charm, Cape Town was about to unfold its treasures, and I was eager to immerse myself in its magic.

Cape Town’s majesty lies in its captivating blend of natural beauty and sophisticated charm, making it an irresistible destination for a luxurious long weekend. As you embark on this journey, you’ll discover that every experience here, from breathtaking coastal drives to opulent yacht cruises, is designed to delight the senses and enrich the soul. Here’s a refined guide to catching the long weekend vibe in Cape Town, where each moment promises a touch of magic and elegance.

1. Drive Along Chapman’s Peak: A Coastal Marvel

Imagine navigating one of the world’s most scenic coastal routes: Chapman’s Peak Drive. Affectionately known as “Chappies,” this 9km route stretches from the picturesque fishing harbour of Hout Bay to Noordhoek, winding along the rugged Atlantic coastline. As we drive through its 114 curves, the road ascends sharply, offering vistas that left me breathless—cliffs plunging into the ocean, waves crashing against the rocks below, and the horizon blending seamlessly with the sky. It’s as if the route was designed by nature itself to showcase its grandeur, particularly during sunset when the landscape is bathed in golden light.

2. Hike Up Lion’s Head: Panoramic City Views

For those who seek adventure intertwined with million-dollar views, hiking up Lion’s Head is a must. This iconic peak, rising 669 meters above sea level, offers a moderately challenging 5.5km trail that takes about 90 minutes one way. As you ascend, the trail reveals panoramic views of Cape Town, Table Mountain, and the Atlantic Ocean. The path, while steep in parts, is dotted with fascinating flora and the occasional sighting of a hyrax, a small mammal native to the area.

Reaching the summit just in time for sunrise, the city below transformed into a canvas of light and shadow. The sight of the sun casting its first golden rays over the horizon, illuminating the city and the ocean, was a moment of pure, unfiltered joy.

At the heart of Cape Town’s eclectic culture lies the Old Biscuit Mill, a vibrant market that feels like a village brimming with artisanal treasures and gourmet delights – a haven for the curious traveller. Wandering through its bustling stalls, I felt a deep connection to the local culture, as if each bite, each handcrafted item, told a story of Cape Town’s rich heritage and vibrant creativity.

4. Explore Stellenbosch Wineries: A Wine Lover’s Haven

Stellenbosch, the jewel of the Cape Winelands, invited me to immerse in a world where vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. With over 200 wine and grape producers, this region is a paradise for wine enthusiasts. I embarked on a hop-on, hop-off tour to estates like Jordan Wines and Delheim Wine Estate, where centuries-old cellars and lush picnic spots await.

Sitting under the dappled shade of an ancient oak, a glass of wine in hand, the world seemed to slow down. The tranquillity of the vineyards, combined with the elegance of the wines, made for an experience that felt both timeless and indulgent. Each sip of the locally produced wine is a testament to the region’s winemaking heritage, with flavours as rich and varied as the landscape itself.

5. Wander Through Bo-Kaap: A Cultural Tapestry

Discover the vibrant history and culture of Bo-Kaap, a neighbourhood at the foot of Signal Hill known for its colourful houses and rich multicultural heritage. Walking through Bo-Kaap’s cobblestone streets, the vibrant hues of the houses are a celebration of freedom itself.

Each facade seemed to echo with laughter and music, creating a joyful and profoundly moving atmosphere. A guided tour offers insights into the traditions, flavours, and history that make Bo-Kaap a living mosaic of cultures, allowing one to delve deeper into the stories of the Cape Malay community.

6. Stroll Through Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

A visit to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is an immersion into nature’s finest artistry. Established in 1913, this garden is a sanctuary of indigenous flora covering 528 hectares, including a cultivated garden and nature reserve. As I wandered through Kirstenbosch, the serenity of the gardens enveloped me. The symphony of birdsong and the fragrance of blooming flowers created a haven of peace, a place where time seemed to stand still. The Boomslang walkway, a treetop canopy path, offers panoramic views that are nothing short of enchanting.

7. Sail on a Luxury Yacht: Sunset Magic

Another elegant way to take in Cape Town’s coastal splendour is aboard a luxurious yacht. Whether you’re anchored in Saldanha Bay or sailing around the V&A Waterfront, a sunset cruise promises panoramic views of the city skyline, Table Mountain, and the sparkling beaches. The cruise typically lasts for two hours and includes a selection of fine wines, champagne, and gourmet snacks. The yacht is equipped with luxurious amenities, including a spacious deck for sunbathing and a comfortable lounge area for relaxation.

Aboard, sip champagne and enjoy fresh oysters as the setting sun paints the sky in hues of orange and pink, casting a magical glow over the landscape. Gliding over the calm waters, the mother city’s lights twinkling in the distance. The gentle rocking of the yacht and the warm glow of the sunset made for a perfect end to a day in paradise.

For a thrilling adventure, try clay pigeon shooting at sea aboard a 55-foot luxury catamaran. This unique experience combines the elegance of yachting with the excitement of shooting, offering a dynamic and memorable way to enjoy Cape Town’s waters. Standing on the deck, the sea stretching endlessly around me, the challenge of hitting a moving target against the backdrop of the horizon was exhilarating. It was a moment where luxury and adventure intertwined seamlessly. Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or a curious beginner, this activity promises a blend of adrenaline and sophistication.

Nestled within the expansive 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy, this lodge is a destination and a gateway to a world of unparalleled natural beauty and ecological significance.

Laikipia, A Prime Wilderness Destination

Laikipia is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife. Home to Kenya’s second-largest population of elephants and one of the largest free-roaming wildlife populations on the continent, this region is a critical wildlife movement corridor between Laikipia and the northern conservancies. It supports diverse species, including endangered animals such as the melanistic leopard, African wild dog, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and desert warthog. Visitors can expect to see a thriving population of elephants and buffalo alongside predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and both striped and spotted hyenas.

The region’s landscapes are equally varied, featuring grasslands, savannas, rocky outcrops, dense vechellia woodlands, and over 16 kilometres of river frontage along the Ewaso Narok River. With 55 mammal species and over 260 bird species, Laikipia is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers.

&Beyond Suyian Lodge – A Unique Luxury Experience

&Beyond Suyian Lodge is poised to offer the finest luxury accommodation within this pristine conservancy. As the only luxury lodge and tented camp operator in Suyian Conservancy, &Beyond promises an exclusive and intimate safari experience. Guests can look forward to world-class game drives, tented camps, sky beds, and mobile camping experiences, all set against Mount Kenya’s majestic views.

Conservation at Its Core at Suyian Conservancy, Kenya

The partnership between &Beyond and the global conservation charity Space for Giants underscores the lodge’s commitment to wildlife preservation. Space for Giants, founded by Dr. Max Graham, has been instrumental in transforming private ranches into thriving wildlife conservancies. The organisation operates across eleven African countries, with Laikipia as its heart and Suyian as its soul.

“Space for Giants has grown immensely in the last ten years and now operates across eleven countries in Africa,” explains Dr Graham. “If Laikipia is the heart of the organisation, Suyian is its soul.

&Beyond Suyian Lodge not only provides luxury and adventure but also contributes significantly to local conservation efforts. The lodge helps safeguard endangered species and their habitats by transforming private lands into protected areas, ensuring that wildlife thrives for generations.

Engaging Activities and Cultural Immersion at Suyian Lodge

Guests at &Beyond Suyian Lodge can immerse themselves in various activities that highlight the region’s natural and cultural richness. Walking safaris offer an up-close look at the diverse flora and historical artefacts, such as ancient cave paintings. Camel and horse-riding safaris provide unique perspectives on the landscape, while helicopter safaris offer breathtaking aerial views of the conservancy.

Fishing trips and interactions with local pastoral tribes, including the Samburu and Pokot, further enrich the experience and offer a deep dive into the local culture and traditions.

Accessibility and Nearby Attractions in Kenya

Easily accessible by air or road from Nairobi, Suyian Lodge is a perfect base for exploring the Northern Frontier region of Kenya. Nearby attractions include the Samburu, the Matthews Range, the Endoto Range, Lake Turkana, and the Suguta Valley, offering additional adventures for intrepid travellers.

“Laikipia is a prime wilderness area that is home to a greater population of wildlife than anywhere else in Kenya outside of the Masai Mara. This includes a large number of globally threatened mammals that make it particularly important from a conservation perspective,” explains Joss Kent, &Beyond CEO and Executive Chairman.

In a blend of dreamy Egyptian adventure and archaeological triumph, Egypt has unveiled a new treasure to the world by opening the restored tomb of Amun’s scribe, Neferhotep, in Luxor. This remarkable attraction invites travellers to step back 3300 years and explore the intricacies of ancient Egyptian civilization, now revived from centuries of decay.

Located in the Al-Khokha area on Luxor’s West Bank, a site rich with history from both the Old Kingdom and the New Kingdom eras, Neferhotep’s tomb (TT49) sits in close proximity to the iconic Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut. This strategic placement adds another layer of attraction to Luxor’s west bank, drawing visitors into the heart of Ancient Egypt.

The tomb, adorned with detailed and colourful painted scenes and inscriptions, offers a window into the lives and beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. These artworks illuminate the shifts in funerary practices following the Amarna period, a time of profound religious change that reshaped the cultural landscape of ancient Egypt.

Thanks to the meticulous efforts of an Argentine mission affiliated with the University of Buenos Aires, the tomb has undergone a transformation that spans more than two decades of restoration work beginning in 2000. The archaeological team dedicated themselves to cleaning the wall paintings, repairing damaged stonework, and restoring the vibrant layers of colour on the inscriptions, breathing new life into this ancient monument.

Neferhotep, who lived during the 18th Dynasty under the reign of King Ay, was not just a scribe of Amun but a figure of significant social standing. His tomb houses statues of the family, including his wife, Meritamun, who was a temple singer, showcasing the personal and spiritual aspects of their lives. The tomb comprises three main chambers: an entry hallway adorned with paintings, a central chapel supported by four pillars and enveloped in decorations, and a third chamber housing statues of Neferhotep and his family. The architectural design of the tomb’s lower burial chambers, oriented towards the rising sun in the east, symbolizes the regeneration of the deceased alongside the sun’s daily journey across the sky.

Discovered in the early 1800s, Neferhotep’s tomb has waited centuries to reveal its full glory to the world. Today, it stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of ancient Egyptian civilization and the ongoing efforts to preserve and celebrate this rich heritage. For visitors to Luxor, the tomb of Neferhotep offers a journey into the past and an intimate encounter with the beliefs, artistry, and everyday life of a culture that continues to fascinate and inspire. ◼

Why Mauritius’ West Coast is the Dream Destination You Didn’t Know You Needed. Bathed in the shimmering blues of the vast Indian Ocean, the paradise of Mauritius emerges as a gem of nature, culture, and history. While the entirety of this captivating island nation is sprinkled with wonders, it’s the west coast that sings a different siren song. One must decide: will you effortlessly synchronize with the island’s vibrant pulse, or would you rather the island’s vivacious energy lift and transform your spirit? Either way, it’s an exhilarating journey of self and sense.

Imagine, for a moment, standing at the brink of a coastal mountain, with the trade winds tousling your hair, the scent of the sea wrapping you in its embrace, and the horizon stretching endlessly. It’s here that the west coast of Mauritius unfurls its tapestry of experiences. From emerald-hued inland adventures to the golden sands and the deep azure of the sea, every facet of the west coast promises memories waiting to be etched into the annals of your travels.

The Luxurious Call of Mauritius: Nature and Adventure

Picture this: the sun sinking below the horizon, painting the heavens in hues of gold and crimson, while the silhouettes of palm trees stand testament to nature’s artistry. The west coast of Mauritius doesn’t just boast of nature—it’s where nature flourishes and dances in its most untamed form. Beaches like Flic en Flac, Tamarin, and Le Morne are canvases that depict tranquillity, beauty, and serenity.

Beyond the visual delights, the west coast of Mauritius is about the feel of the cool sand beneath your feet, the symphony of waves serenading your ears, and the laid-back rhythm of life that beckons you to unwind and embrace luxury. The west, with its amalgamation of nature’s grandeur and man-made opulence, is where the heart of luxury beats strong and resonant in Mauritius.

Horseback Adventures Along The Pristine Shores of Le Morne, Mauritius

Imagine adding a majestic creature to these sandy shores and tranquil waves – a horse. On the stunning beaches of Le Morne peninsula, this becomes a reality. Here, amidst the whisper of the waves and the chorus of coastal birds, you can embark on an equestrian journey like no other.

Picture this: As the last rays of the sun turn the ocean into a molten pool of gold, you mount a horse, its mane fluttering in the gentle breeze. Whether you choose a private, intimate experience or prefer the camaraderie of a group, there’s an option tailored just for you. Beginners need not worry. With basic lessons provided to novices and all necessary equipment like riding helmets, chaps, and boots readily available, safety and comfort are paramount.

Guided by seasoned experts, you can explore the beaches stretching from the iconic Le Morne Mountain to the expansive west coast lagoon. Each trot offers a new vista – perhaps a distant view of the Benitiers Island or the grand silhouette of the Le Morne peak.

But the pièce de résistance? As your journey culminates, instead of retreating, you urge your horse forward, deeper into the waves. The feeling is both surreal and exhilarating; a fusion of earth and water, as you and your horse splash joyously through the sea’s embrace. It’s not just horseback riding; it’s a communion with nature, a memory etched in the very fabric of your soul. Such is the magic of beach horseback riding on the west coast of Mauritius.

Aerial Adventures: Zip Lining Above Nature’s Palette in Mauritius

Ever dreamed of seeing the world from a bird’s perspective? In the west coast of Mauritius, that dream turns into reality, with thrilling ziplining adventures waiting to set your heart racing. Just as the cerulean waves kiss the golden shores, the verdant canopies of the island beckon adventure-seekers to explore from above.

At the renowned Casela Nature Parks, nestled in the heart of the Black River region, prepare to be astounded. Their zipline offerings are as varied as they are exhilarating. Opt for the adrenaline rush of the 400m zipline, or challenge yourself with the sequence of four ziplines, each offering a different view and sensation. As you zoom above, the wind in your hair and the panoramic beauty beneath, you might just forget to breathe for a moment. And for those seeking a blend of thrill and tranquillity, the Nepalese suspension bridge offers a walk in the skies, its wooden platforms suspended high, connecting you to nature in its rawest form.

Venture a little further to the Vallée Des Couleurs, where nature showcases its artistry with the stunning 23 coloured earth. As you zipline over this natural wonder, it’s like gliding over an artist’s palette, with every hue of the earth shimmering below. Add to that the sight of six majestic waterfalls cascading down, their misty sprays creating rainbows in the sunlight, and the experience becomes ethereal.

Trekking the trails of west coast Mauritius: From verdant valleys to rugged ridges

The west coast of Mauritius are not just about sun-kissed beaches and azure waters; they hold within them a world of rugged beauty, waiting to be explored. As the sun casts its golden glow over the dense forests and the cool breeze rustles through the leaves, hiking enthusiasts find their paradise in the Black River Gorges National Park.

Sprawling expansively, the park boasts a vast network of trails, each varying in intensity and length, catering to both the casual stroller and the hardcore trekker. From the shorter, mesmerizing paths like the Seven Cascades Short Loop, where nature’s music is composed of cascading waterfalls and chirping birds, to the more challenging Piton Mauritius Trail, which rewards hikers with panoramic vistas of the island, there’s a unique adventure awaiting every footstep.

If you’re in for a moderate hike, the Alexandra Falls Trail offers a walk and a journey through time as you navigate past ancient trees and witness water diving gracefully from high cliffs. The air here, infused with the scent of wildflowers and moist earth, invigorates the senses, making every trek a rejuvenating experience.

However, for those seeking to up the ante, the rugged cliffs of d’Albion beckon. Situated further up the west coast, this region offers challenging terrains and a brush with history, courtesy of its age-old lighthouse that stands as a sentinel overlooking the vast ocean.

And it’s not just hiking. The Black River Gorges also flings open its doors to rock climbing aficionados and those eager to pedal through its landscapes, offering bike touring options that wind through some of the park’s most scenic routes.

The Kite Surfing Paradise: Le Morne’s Shoreline

Le Morne, set against the backdrop of Mauritius’ picturesque landscapes, serves as a magnet for kite surfing enthusiasts. With the Indian Ocean unfurling its vast expanse, the region is more than just a scenic wonder; it’s the epitome of kite surfing adventure, inviting both novices and pros to revel in its aquatic treasures.

Its global reputation is hard-earned. Recognized as one of the premier kite surfing hubs on the island, Le Morne has also carved a niche for traditional surfers, making it a bustling hub of water sports. Whether you are a seasoned surfer with your own equipment or a beginner seeking rentals, Le Morne, alongside Tamarin, ensures every need is met, and every thrill-seeker is accommodated.

The south easterly trade winds are the architects behind the diverse surfing experiences that Le Morne offers. The spectrum ranges from serene flat waters, acting as a nurturing ground for beginners, to the formidable waves that challenge even the seasoned pros. The surrounding coral reefs sculpt mesmerizing flat water lagoons characterized by their shallow depths and translucent clarity. Yet, a short distance away, the waves begin their crescendo, offering impressive heights and challenges.

For kite surfers seeking specifics in Le Morne’s vast aquatic tapestry, there are distinct areas tailored for different experiences. The Le Morne Lagoon, often referred to as the Kite Lagoon, emerges as a sanctuary for beginners, its waters calm and forgiving. A little further, Le Morne Point offers a harmonious blend, perfect for those seeking both thrill and tranquillity. The daring ones might venture to One Eye, a spot where the waves, fierce and majestic, demand utmost skill and reverence. And then there’s Manawa, a realm where waves audaciously rise up to 3 meters, a challenge exclusively reserved for those who dare to conquer.

As the sun casts its golden hues on Mauritius’ west coast, the waters invite explorers to uncover another layer of its beauty. Just as Le Morne’s shores are a haven for kite surfers, the depths of its lagoons and beyond are a paradise for those seeking underwater marvels. Slipping on a snorkel, the tranquil lagoons come alive with vibrant marine life, each creature playing its part in the symphony of the sea. Beyond these shallows, the Indian Ocean deepens into realms of epic dive spots, with the iconic Crystal Rock standing as a beacon for those eager to immerse in the blue waters.

Stay in style when in Mauritius’ west coast

In the sun-kissed realm of Mauritius’ west coast, where waves whisper tales and skies paint dreams each dusk, accommodation choices are as splendid as the natural tapestry that envelopes them. Within this paradise, visitors are spoiled for choice, from eco-friendly lodges nestled amidst nature’s embrace to grand beachfront resorts that stand as testaments to luxury redefined.

For those seeking to harmonize with nature, envision an escape to an eco-lodge, set amidst heart-stopping vistas. Such lodges, with their “hippie chic” aesthetic, promise a unique blend of sustainability and style, allowing guests to drift into serenity, surrounded by breathtaking beauty.

However, if unabashed luxury is what your heart desires, the west coast of Mauritius holds the keys to palatial domains that redefine the essence of opulence. Take, for instance, the JW Marriott Mauritius Resort, a sanctum of sophistication. With its 172 sea-facing suites, each a realm unto itself, the resort combines elegance with personalized service, such as bespoke butler assistance. Gastronomy here is a grand affair, with five exceptional restaurants, helmed by specialty chefs who craft culinary masterpieces.

Not far off, the LUX Le Morne Resort beckons. It’s not just a luxury resort; it’s a dream woven into the very fabric of a tropical paradise. Its boutique style, combined with five pools, beach access, and three culinary havens, makes it a quintessential tropical getaway within an already paradisiacal island.

Then there’s the Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa, a haven of privacy and tranquillity. With 65 private pool villas overlooking the scenic Tamarin Bay, it offers an unparalleled level of seclusion. Set on a pristine white sandy beach, the resort exemplifies peace and privacy.

Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is another jewel, presenting itself right where the waves kiss the shore. Each corner of this resort sings lullabies of relaxation and luxury. Similarly, the Sofitel Mauritius L’Imperial Resort & Spa stands proud, a symbol of beachfront grandeur complemented by a spa that promises rejuvenation of both body and spirit.

Bars, pubs and street food of Mauritius’s west coast

The west coast of Mauritius tantalizes not just the eyes but also the palate. Embarking on a food tour here promises a delightful exploration of an array of cuisines, each telling tales of the island’s diverse heritage. From the aromatic street food of Tamarin Bay and Flic en Flac to the authentic flavours of Chamarel, every bite is a journey into the heart of Mauritian culture.
